Watford has a lot going for itself, but there is no denying that there are some things the town just doesn't have.
We asked our readers what’s the one thing that’s missing from the town centre, and nearly 1,000 people responded letting us know how they felt.
One thing that was touched upon was improvements to Watford Market.
Gill Ellis said: “A proper market, not just a few containers shoved in an alley.”
Others backed the suggestion and referred to St Albans Market and the need to have “crafts mixed with artisan goods and locally grown seasonal produce”.
Roderick Cutler said: “A decent market like there used to be. Not the shipping container excuse for a market there is now.
“Plenty of empty shops or buildings where a proper market can be reinstalled.”
Similarly, Mark Colston said there’s a need for things to “bring an atmosphere to the high street beyond drinking” and suggested a “regular or weekend farmers market”.
Shopping seemed to be a recurring point from our readers. Joanna Kemp said Watford needs a department store like the former John Lewis again – as well as other gift shops and independent stores.
However Colette RS pointed out: “People say department stores – we had them and they weren’t making any money! Use it or lose it!”
One interesting point was from Declan Zapala, who said that Watford could do with more music venues.

Stephen Danzig brought attention to another thing Watford was missing and said: “Watford is one of the few towns that doesn't have a Memorial listing all the names Watford sadly lost during WW1, WW2 and other conflicts, and Watford civilians should also be remembered.
“Peter Taylor Mayor of Watford mentioned, some time ago, that a Memorial Board would be erected in a prominent position in Watford, but haven't heard anymore on this development.”
Another point raised was the idea of a Metropolitan Line station in the town centre – which was previously intended to happen at the Moon Under Water site.
