Land formerly used for a primary school looks likely to be redeveloped after the green light was given to sell it off.
The land in question used to be the home of Meriden Primary School, which closed in 2004.
Owned by Hertfordshire County Council, the space in Harvest End has been declared "surplus" and the council is looking to dispose of its responsibility for it.
According to council papers, the land could be snapped up by Herts Living Ltd (HLL) because the company has "expressed an interest" in buying the site.
HLL is a standalone company of the county council and describes itself as a company that "builds and makes investments into real estate in Hertfordshire".
At a Cabinet meeting on Monday (April 25), councillors agreed that the council should proceed with the disposal of the land.
It will be on terms that will be settled under the delegated authority of the council's deputy chief executive and executive director of resources, in consultation with the executive member for resources and performance.
The proposal put to Cabinet is designed to "ensure smooth administrative passage" of any future sale of the land, the council says.
The former playing fields of Meriden School, which are also owned by the council, does not form part of the land being disposed.
