A gas leak is causing severe delays on roads near Watford General Hospital.
Four-way traffic lights have been installed in Wiggenhall Road at the junction with Thomas Sawyer Way.
Cadent Gas employees have dug into the road blocking off one side of Wiggenhall Road.
The temporary traffic lights are causing significant disruption, particularly for drivers heading down Wiggenhall Road from Vicarage Road. Delays could be as much as 15 to 30 minutes during rush hour.
The work is by Thomas Sawyer Way which is the main public access route into the hospital, while visitors to Oxhey Activity Park may also get stuck in the delays.
Hertfordshire County Council says it is aware of work that has been taking place in Wiggenhall Road which has moved along to the current location.
A permit is likely to be granted for Cadent to keep the partial road closure in place in order to repair the gas leak. A target date for completion has not yet been confirmed but delays are likely in this area for the rest of the week.
A council spokesperson acknowledged the disruption the temporary traffic lights are causing but said it is "very important" the gas leak is fixed.
Elsewhere in Watford, there are delays in both directions in Hempstead Road approaching the junction with Courtlands Drive because of roadworks that are set to last until April 29.
Work to permanently replace traffic lights in Bushey at the junction of Aldenham Road, Little Bushey Lane, and Bushey Mill Lane is also set to last until April 29.
