The construction of a 76-bed care home for residents including those with dementia has begun.
Riverside Lodge is being built on the site of the former Bridge Motors in Church Street, Rickmansworth.
Quantum Care's development will include 76 en-suite bedrooms, a cinema, hair and beauty salon, dining rooms, lounges and a café and it is due to be completed in July 2023.
On March 29, Three Rivers District Council chairman Keith Martin was invited to perform a turf cutting ceremony. He was joined by Quantum Care chief executive Maria Ball and Nigel Berney, who is the co-founder of NL Property which is building the care home.
Cllr Martin said: "It was a pleasure to participate in the ground breaking ceremony for what I am sure will be a much loved home for its residents. This care home will provide much needed quality accommodation for people who are no longer able to live independently.
"I wish Quantum Care and its contractors every success in the construction phase and very much look forward to the day when residents move into this new facility."
Ms Ball added: "Riverside Lodge will offer the highest standards of care accommodation and care quality; something that we are very proud of.
"As a not-for-profit community benefit society, we always strive to work closely with our neighbours and a wide range of local groups and are very much looking forward to becoming a valued part of the Rickmansworth community."
