More electric vehicle (EV) chargers have been installed in Watford to give easier access and encourage more people to go electric.
The on-street charging points in Church Road and Stamford Road in the Nascot area of the town are available for residents and visitors with parking permits and vouchers.
Nascot councillor Tom Osborn said: "With the ban on new petrol and diesel cars only a few short years away, it is absolutely vital public infrastructure keeps pace in order to make the transition possible for road users who lack access to off-street parking.
"Nascot should be proud that we have one of the fastest-growing network of kerbside EV chargers anywhere in Hertfordshire to power our residents’ rapid take-up of electric vehicles."
Cllr Osborn's Liberal Democrat colleague Cllr Mark Hofman added: "It is crucial that we install electric vehicle chargers close to where people live and want to park their cars. Residents have told me that easy access to an EV charger is essential to their decision to switch to an electric car.
"With petrol pump prices soaring to new record highs, the case for more government funding to back local councils to tackle air pollution and achieve our goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2030 has never been stronger."
Watford Borough Council says there are more than 40 electric vehicle charging points for public use in the town.
The latest Department for Transport statistics show the number of battery electric vehicles registered in Watford account for more than half those registered in the whole of Hertfordshire.
Over the last year, the town has seen a 45 per cent rise in electric vehicle registrations, with nearly 5,000 now registered in Watford; the second highest is St Albans, with 831.
Of the 4,847 BEVs registered in Watford, 4,701 (96.9%) were company registrations compared with private keepers.
The same DFT figures show the number of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in Watford last year was just over 1,800.
