Bovingdon Market has confirmed the final date of trading at its iconic airfield site.
The market is being booted out of its home at Bovingdon Airfield after plans to build film studios on the site were granted in the autumn.
The closure has been on the cards since September and in a Facebook post yesterday, the market gave an important update on its future.
The post, which has attracted thousands of reactions, comments, and shares said: "We recommend starting your Christmas shopping early…as we won’t be here for Christmas 2022.
"Sadly, your favourite Market will stop trading at Bovingdon Airfield in September.
"Film work is taking over the space at Bovingdon Airfield, we’re trying to relocate the Market to another place and will keep you updated on that.
"For the moment - grab your bargains while you can! We’re OPEN every Saturday 9am-4pm. Hope to see you all soon."
Bovingdon Market later added in the comments that its official last day will be Monday August 29 which is a bank holiday.
With more than 400 stalls ranging from fashion to food, the market has gained high levels of popularity and attracted crowds from far and wide during more than 40 years of trading.
But it has also had a chequered past with counterfeit goods found to have been for sale at the market over the years by police and officers from Hertfordshire Trading Standards.
Bovingdon Market said it would "resist" attempts to redevelop the airfield site but it ultimately proved unsuccessful after Dacorum Borough Council awarded permission to build three film studios.
Blockbusters including Bohemian Rhapsody have been filmed on Bovingdon Airfield in recent years, while ITV already operates a studio on the site for the filming of Dancing on Ice and the Masked Singer.
It has not been confirmed who will operate the new studios.
