A pub that required “urgent improvement” after scoring 0/5 in a food standards inspection has impressed inspectors after jumping to a 4/5 score.
The Oaks at Old Uxbridge Road in Rickmansworth was previously inspected by the Environmental Health team on October 28, 2021, when it was given the lowest rating possible.
At the time, there were nearly 40 issues addressed in the report seen by the Watford Observer, after both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety required “major improvement” while the cleanliness and condition of facilities required “necessary improvement”.
After an inspection on January 31 this year, The Oaks has redeemed itself and was rated “good”.
The Food Standards Agency has not listed a breakdown on what each key area inspected scored, but overall it was enough to reverse the poor rating it previously held.
The report back in October last year noted that the chef was not aware that himself or staff should not return until 48 hours after being free of diarrhoea or vomiting symptoms.
Several other areas of concerned were mentioned, as the inspector said there was “no confidence” in the food safety management.

Another Three Rivers establishment, Farmhouse Pizza in South Oxhey, also managed to flip its low score into a 'good' rating.
A spokesperson from the Environmental Health team working on behalf of Three Rivers District Council previously said: “We never leave businesses operating in a way that presents a risk to public health and will close them if there are major issues such as pest infestation or drainage problems.
“Businesses retain the rating they are awarded at the time of the inspection until they complete the required work and formally request a rescore.”
