A trail of stakes has been pushed into the ground in and around Watford, marking the places where an environmental project’s Urban Orchards will be planted early next month.
Each of the ten stakes has a QR Code, taking smartphones to Feeding our Future’s Urban Orchard ‘plant up page’, encouraging residents to sign up to help plant their local orchard.
Once the orchards are planted, the same QR code can then be used to find out more and register interest in joining Feeding our Future’s town-wide information and resource-based campaign to reduce food waste in the local food-chain.
Elected mayor and Feeding our Future patron Peter Taylor said “It was great to stumble across a Feeding our Future stake in the ground!
“I’m really pleased Feeding our Future has taken its commitment to reduce food waste to the streets and parks of Watford.
“I’ll be helping to plant up and encourage everyone in Watford to get together to explore the exciting opportunities on offer by Feeding our Future to impact on our carbon footprint”.
Created in early 2021 in response to the global Earthshot Prize, Feeding our Future is committed to supporting families, neighbourhoods, schools and businesses discover fresh, exciting and impactful ways to measurably reduce food waste, a major contributor to carbon emissions.
The Urban Orchards trail is the first Feeding our Future initiative, with more planned this year and beyond.
Organisers of the project are particularly grateful to Watford Community Housing for both providing the funding and having the vision to recognise the opportunity Watford has to help fix climate change.
