Some of the country’s best young athletes will be coming to Watford this summer for a world-class event.
The British Milers Club’s International Grand Prix, which attracts those looking to qualify for big worldwide opportunities, will be held at Woodside athletics stadium on June 11.
This year the event has been recognised as part of the World Continental Tour, making it one of only two in the UK to have such prestige attached to it.
It will also hold the UK under 20 European trials and under 18 World trials.
British Milers CEO Tim Brennan said “The Watford track and the British Milers meeting has achieved a fame in the athletics world as the place to come for great races and fast times. We want to share with the Watford community the opportunity to come and see and support the track stars of today and tomorrow.”
The Woodside athletics stadium was opened in 1955 by the late Prince Phillip and is also the home of Watford Harriers.
Woodside councillor Glen Saffery said: “I’m delighted that the fantastic work the British Milers do with this event has been recognised at such a high level.
"It’s amazing for Woodside to have such an amazing event take place at our fantastic stadium and I’m sure plenty of local residents will come out and watch all the action from these elite level athletes.”
