The first phase of work to improve the look and feel of a Watford shopping street has been completed.
Work has been taking place to modernise the section of Market Street between the ring road and Merton Road.
Watford Borough Council says this includes improvements to the pavement and drainage system, the addition of modern street 'furniture' as well as bollards to stop people illegally parking.
Denise Cox, who is the owner of Tapestry Cakes, said: "The area has been enhanced to provide a sustainable and vibrant local high street to support the community and local businesses for years to come.
"The improvements offer a better Market Street experience as a place to meet, relax and enjoy, by providing an attractive, safe space at the heart of the town centre."
The next phase will see improvements made in Market Street between the ring road and the high street.
It comes following project to spruce up other parts of Watford including the high street outside the atria Watford extension, Clarendon Road, and St Albans Road.
Council documents published at the beginning of the year revealed the investments in Market Street could be nearly £1 million.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: "One of my key manifesto commitments was to improve areas such as this. We must make sure that all of our town can benefit from investment and schemes like these, which are really important in making Watford a better place.
"The changes make a real difference to the look and feel of Market Street, making it much more attractive for residents, shoppers and visitors."
