Roadworks are causing major traffic delays on a number of roads including the M1 motorway.
The temporary traffic lights have been installed in Hartspring Lane, near the Toby Carvery restaurant off the A41.
Gas supplier Cadent is responsible for the work and it has been listed as "emergency roadworks" on traffic and data management website One Network.
During yesterday evening's rush hour (Monday), the queues were so bad, they tailed all the way back down the M1 towards Edgware as drivers waited to exit at junction 5 for Watford.
The traffic lights in Hartspring Lane are just off the Hartspring Roundabout which means the roundabout is being clogged up.
Yesterday saw vehicles queuing on the A41 from the Berrygrove roundabout towards the Hartspring roundabout which had a knock-on effect for the M1 northbound.
Other local roads are being affected too including Hartspring Lane itself and Aldenham Road, with traffic busy once again this morning.

According to One Network, Cadent has a permit of until December 21 but the work could be completed sooner or beyond that date.
Cadent Gas has been approached for further details.
