Police are clamping down on drivers who rev their engines and anti-social behaviour at a Starbucks near Watford.

Loud music, revving engines and anti-social behaviour were common issues facing residents and regular customers at the Starbucks car park in Chiswell Green, North Orbital Road.

It became a neighbourhood priority after numerous complaints to Hertfordshire Constabulary from residents.

As a result, improved lighting, installation of CCTV cameras and a security guard were some of actions taken by the Safer Neighbourhood Team to clamp down on car meets and anti-social behaviour.

Daily calls have significantly reduced, with there only being one this month, police said.

PCSO Dan Huntley teamed up with PCSO Lou Traxon and contacted Starbucks, Shell, St Albans City and District Council and Highways to tackle the problem head on.

He said: “We worked together to make a positive impact as soon as possible with proactive and covert police patrols and we have issued dozens of initial warnings. This seemed to have worked - if they are caught a second time driving or behaving anti-socially, we can use section 59 warnings to confiscate their vehicle.

“Starbucks have just recently cut down trees and hedges that were providing shelter for anti-social behaviour and we have also been addressing irresponsible parking together.”

PCSO Traxon added: “If you see any car meets or anti-social driving, please do get in touch. We have a raft of measures in place to make sure we nip it in the bud.”
