Anthony Joshua will star in a new Snapchat series in which he will give back to people in Watford and “make a difference”.

The former heavyweight world champion told the Watford Observer back in June last year that he wanted to invest money into Watford to help the local community.

During the Black Lives Matter march in Cassiobury Park, Joshua said he had “so many plans” and that all he needed was some “direction” from Watford’s mayor.

Now instant messaging app Snapchat, that hosts original content on their ‘discover’ page, will be the platform for Joshua’s new series: ‘A Fighting Chance with Anthony Joshua’.

The new unscripted series is set to premiere in 2022 and will follow Joshua as he returns to Watford to talk about his past and uplift the lives of others.

The official description reads: “Sporting superstar Anthony Joshua is on a mission to give the younger generation of his community in Watford something he never had: a mentor.

“With his book of contacts and drive to make a difference, he'll give them a taste of a life and career of their dreams, while providing the direction to keep them on the straight and narrow.”

This is not the first time Joshua has offered to help youths in Watford and across England, as he has donated money to support amateur boxing clubs that were struggling in the pandemic, and offered to support local gyms across the country.

Joshua, who grew up in the Meriden Estate, also told Vogue in a past interview that he wants to build youth projects and community centres in Watford.

When discussing his ideas earlier on to the Observer, he said: “I know when I come back to my community, it’s important that we get things right here.

“It’s all about being the change you want to see."

He continued: “The change I want to see in my community is - we got our own money to invest in our community, we’re not asking for help, all we’re asking for is a bit of direction.”

“Our community here wants to uplift each other, I have so many plans.

“All we need from the local councillors, the local mayor is somewhere where we can purchase, buy the freehold, invest our own hard-owned cash into the community.

“We’re not trying to do no developments  we’re looking to give back to the community.”
