Police have confirmed that the pedestrian hit by a car this afternoon (Friday) was a 12-year-old boy.
Emergency services have flooded North Orbital Road in Garston close to the McDonald's following the crash at 2.55pm.
The boy received medical treatment from paramedics, Hertfordshire Constabulary said.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene.
An air ambulance landed close to the crash in Crown Rise.
The boy has now been airlifted to the Royal London Hospital for treatment, the East of England Ambulance service said.
North Orbital Road is currently closed at the junction with the cinema and the St Albans Road junction.
It is expected to remain shut for some time while investigations are carried out, police said.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
