Emergency roadworks near Vicarage Road football stadium are set to be complete well ahead of kick-off tomorrow.
Watford fans will be flocking to Vicarage Road on Saturday for the Hornets’ match against Wolves at 3pm.
This will inevitably bring more traffic to the town - and there were fears that new works in Wiggenhall Road, near Vicarage Road, could have caused chaos.
Emergency works are being carried out by Affinity Water to repair a leaked pipe and as a result, multi-way signals have been installed on the road.
However, a spokesperson for the water company says it plans on completing the works by 10am on Saturday.
A spokesperson said: “We’re committed to fixing leaks as soon as possible. We worked with the local highways agency to arrange the traffic management needed to ensure we can access the leak and fix it quickly.
"We have been working to fix it today and the resurfacing work needed should be complete by 10am tomorrow morning at the latest and in advance of the football match at 3pm.”
Hertfordshire County Council says it is working with Affinity Water to ensure the works are completed and that the site is clear as soon as possible.
