A rock was thrown at a Tesco store before thieves broke in and stole cash.
The incident occurred at the Tesco in Watling Street between 3.30am and 3.50am on Friday, September 3.
A rock was thrown at a window, damaging the front door.
Cash was removed from the till and the thieves ran off.
Two men were later arrested and charged before appearing at Hatfield Magistrates Court.
Marc Geffcote-Kendall and William Crowe pleaded guilty to burglary.
Geffcote-Kendall, 41, of no fixed abode, was given a 12-week custodial sentence and ordered to pay £350 compensation.
Crowe, 40, of Anson Road, London was remanded and will be sentenced at Stevenage Magistrates Court.
