A housing association has delivered dozens of new affordable homes for rent and shared ownership in Bushey.
Hightown Housing Association says Rossway Quarter, in Plomley Place (off Rossway Drive) is bringing 55 new affordable homes to the area.
The housing association says 37 homes have been allocated to people in housing need nominated by Hertsmere Borough Council and 18 will help people get their first step on the property ladder through shared ownership.
The development consists of 31 one and two-bedroom apartments and 24 two and three-bedroom houses.
The development is situated on a former industrial estate for a car scrappage business.
Construction began in March 2019 and the development was recently completed and the majority of the residents have now moved in.
To celebrate the opening of the new homes, a special ribbon-cutting event took place where the Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor John Graham, declared the homes officially open.
The event was also attended by a number of councillors including Councillor Jean Heywood, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Hertsmere Borough Council, Hightown's Chair of the Board and Chief Executive, contractors involved in the building of the new development and many of the new residents.
David Bogle, Chief Executive at Hightown Housing Association, said: "Bushey is a great place to live and I'm proud that we were able to deliver one of the few 100% affordable housing developments in the area. A lot of thought went into the design to ensure we created a community as well as high quality homes.
"Thank you to Hertsmere Borough Council and the building contractor, Jarvis, who helped us to deliver one of our finest developments in recent years. With welcome support from Homes England, these new homes have given an affordable home to local people and families priced out of renting or buying on the open market."
Councillor John Graham, Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere, said: "It was a great honour to open these new homes and I enjoyed meeting the residents and everyone at Hightown.
"As house prices and private rents increase, affordable housing is vital as it means more of our younger residents can afford to stay in Hertsmere. This is an excellent development and I am sure the residents will be happy living here for many years to come."
