In reply to Mr MacKenzie (Letters, August 20), I am in possession of the facts.
The legislation we are discussing is not an Act of Parliament but a statutory instrument.
These are made in accord with a parent Act which sets out who can make such legislation.
In this case the General Permitted Development Order 2015 was made in accord with the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
And as provided for by the parent Act, made by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on March 18, 2015. The then Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Conservative MP for Brentwood and Ongar.
Readers will note that these pieces of legislation were made by the Thatcher government in 1990 and a Conservative MP in 2015.
