DEBATE is a good thing, as Mr Roger Pidgeon indicated in his email to the Editor in last week’s Watford Observer (regarding the Local Plan blame-game going on between Watford MP Dean Russell and the Lib Dem-run Watford Borough Council).
However, Mr Pidgeon really has to bone up on his facts with reference to what he describes as the Watford outcry about the Wellstones permission given on appeal. So for the benefit of Mr Pidgeon, I will put a bit more meat on the bone regarding Wellstones and the hypocrisy of the Lib Dem-run council at the time.
A planning application went in to Watford Council to change the use of a building in Wellstones under the GDP015 legislation that the Lib Dems introduced while in government with the Tories. This allowed developers to introduce windowless housing that at the time took a lot of criticism from the local Lib Dem-run council. However, much as it must have hurt the local Lib Dem-run council knowing it was their own Lib Dem government ministers that allowed developers to introduce windowless housing, it still left the local Lib Dem-run council with a whiff of hypocrisy hanging over them.
