Long delays in Watford this morning on the A41 have caused highways bosses to increase monitoring of temporary traffic lights on the stretch.
The heavy traffic around Colne Way and The Dome roundabout were caused by a technical fault with the temporary traffic lights.
Following the congestion Kevin Carrol, Ringway's divisional manager working on behalf of the county council, confirmed monitoring would now be upped as the works continue.

He said: "We apologise for the delays experienced on the A41 at Watford this morning.
"The temporary traffic signals that are operating here, whilst the permanent signals are being upgraded, had a technical fault.
"The fault was promptly addressed and the signals have since been replaced.
"We will be increasing the monitoring of the temporary signals during peak traffic periods as works continue."
He added: "We are taking advantage of the School summer holiday period to do these works, as peak traffic levels tend to be lower and we expect to complete the works by 27 August."
