Police were called to Kings Langley after travellers were spotted in a field.
Hertfordshire Constabulary says it recieved a report that around five vehicles towing caravans had parked on the common around 6.30pm on Sunday.
Officers attended to speak with the occupants of the vehicles, who said they would go shortly.
The vehicles had left the area around two hours later, police said.
A spokesperson from the force said: "Police were called at around 6.30pm on Sunday 25 July to report that around five vehicles towing caravans had parked on the common at Kings Langley.
"Officers attended to speak with the occupants of the vehicles, who advised they would be leaving shortly.
"The vehicles had left the area by 8.30pm."
