Firefighters rushed to the scene of a campervan on fire yesterday evening.
The emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle on fire in a yard next to a marina by the Grand Union Canal and River Gade.
A white Volkswagen campervan was well alight at around 5.30pm, just off the main A412 Watford Road between Croxley Green and Watford.
Members of the public kept drivers and passers-by away from the scene as black smoke billowed into the air with the campervan lit up in bright orange flames.
In a video taken from the other side of the A412 by passer-by Anthony Cullen, the fire could be seen ripping through the campervan with sirens blaring in the background.
A police unit turned up before a fire engine from Garston arrived seconds later driving into the Bridgwater Basin yard and extinguishing the fire.
Around a minute into the video, there was the sound of a small explosion prompting squeals and gasps from those close by.
Passing motorists who could see the thick black smoke slowed down as they passed the scene of the fire.
It's not clear at this stage what caused the vehicle to set alight but Mr Cullen said he could see it had been partially destroyed once the fire had been put out.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue has confirmed it received a call at 5.36pm and one crew from Garston attended.
Two hose reel jets and one set of breathing apparatus was used to put out the flames.
The incident was over by 6.30pm.
