A yellow weather warning has been issued for Hertfordshire and surrounding areas whilst the hot weather continues.
The Met Office is warning that thunderstorms may develop between 1pm and midnight today (Tuesday), which may impact travel and power.
Whilst many areas are set to avoid them, the weather forecaster is warning that thunderstorms could also bring poor weather conditions such as torrential rain.
Its website reads: “Although many places will miss them, some thunderstorms are likely to develop during Tuesday afternoon and evening, bringing torrential rain, frequent lightning, large hail and gusty winds. These thunderstorms could produce 30-60 mm of rain within 1-2 hours.”
What to expect
- Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
