A man was seen beating up a dog that he was walking in Bushey, police have said.
Hertfordshire Constabulary is investigating the attack on the animal, which occurred in the Merry Hill Road area at around 7.50pm.
The force says a man was seen punching and kicking a Golden Retriever that he was walking.
Police received a call reporting concern for the dog later that evening at around 9.35pm.
The man who had been seen is described as Asian and aged in his mid-fifties.
The local Safer Neighbourhood Team have been made aware and any other witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact police quoting ISR 782 of 28 June.
