A knife was found under a tree during a litter pick in Cassiobury Park, a resident has claimed.

James Nolan says a group of people were tidying the park in Watford on Friday, June 11, when three of them noticed the knife under the ‘Lion King’ tree – a Lebanon cedar.

He says that when they called the police about the knife, they were told to bring it to the station.

It was then that Mr Nolan took a photo of the knife before getting in touch with the Watford Observer.

“They were a bit shocked by coming across it (the knife),” Mr Nolan said.

“I was walking by, they didn't know what to do and I looked at it and said to them that it should be reported to the police - I carried on and about an hour later I came back.

“They had rung the police and they said they couldn't come out and asked them to bring it to the station that's when I took the picture.”

Mr Nolan, from Watford, added that he offered to take the knife to the station but that the people who found it said they would deal with it.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says it is unaware of any reports of the knife and that no such item was handed into Watford Police Station.

A spokesperson said: “If we had received a call of this nature, and a police unit was unavailable to attend due to the demand of emergency incidents, we would ask the caller to wrap the knife before taking it to the nearest police station to ensure the safety of the wider public.

“If you have any information about this incident, please contact police on the non-emergency number 101.”
