- One of the busiest roads in and out of Watford was closed this evening by police.

- Hertfordshire Constabulary said it was at the scene of a collision on the A41 in Watford, with emergency services called at 6.44pm (Tuesday).

- The force says the road was closed in both directions and asked motorists to avoid the area.

- The police did not give an exact location on the A41 but live traffic maps suggest the incident took place just north of the Dome Roundabout, near North Watford Cemetery.

- No further details have been released yet by police about the collision; however the fire service tweeted information about the crash, which a spokesperson confirmed via Twitter was in relation to the crash reported by police on the A41 this evening.

- Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue tweeted: "At 18:49 @garstonfire were mobilised to a vehicle fire following an RTC. When the crews arrived, luckily they found that there were no persons trapped and no fire situation. The crew did assist with first aid procedures ."

- The police posted on its social media channels at around 7.15pm: "Motorists are advised to avoid the A41 Watford as the road is closed following a collision. Emergency services are at the scene having been called at 6.44pm on Tuesday 1 June."

- By 8.30pm, all of the traffic delays had cleared and it looked like the road had reopened.
