For those with a sweet tooth and an eye for the flamboyant, Watford’s new dessert parlour will be a sugary Shangri-La.
Fine dining shop Heavenly Desserts was fully unveiled by the mayor in mid-May and is already becoming a popular High Street fixture.
In a nutshell, it offers pudding with panache. Meticulously crafted desserts, ice cream imported from Sicily, all enjoyed in a chic parlour with a chilled vibe.
But does it live up to its billing?
Yes. It is exactly what it says on its gilded tin.
The 25-page menu is replete with mouth-watering ‘signature creations’ – many of which are cookie dough-based or arrive on waffles or crepes.
There are also classics from tarts to Tiramisu, cheesecakes to crumbles, and traditional British favourites such as Victoria sponge and sticky toffee pudding.
I plumped for a trio of chocolate shots – Nutella, white and Belgian – followed by American waffles with warm melted Biscoff spread, crumbs and Madagascan vanilla gelato.
As the chocolate-driven endorphins swirled, our eyes flitted around the flowery decor embellishing the venue, smiling as people took selfies under picture perfect lighting.
By the end we were so full it felt like we may have to be rolled home. But it was worth it.
Some may find Heavenly Desserts a touch over the top. Obviously fine dining also isn’t cheap. But if you want a McFlurry you know where to go.
Franchisee Muhammed Kamran told the Observer the response has been “overwhelming”, with the parlour reaching maximum capacity during the Bank Holiday Weekend.
He said evenings are its peak period as customers often grab dinner elsewhere before finishing off with a luxurious dessert at the parlour.
The biggest challenge has been hiring enough experienced staff to keep up with demand, having already got 21 workers to date.
Having established itself in the heart of the town, Heavenly Desserts is now hoping to strike deals with local leisure venues to build on its early momentum.
