Bushey South councillor Seamus Quilty has been elected as the new chairman of Hertfordshire County Council.
Cllr Quilty takes over the role from Cllr Colette Wyatt-Lowe and will become the county council’s 37th Chairman since 1889.
The Bushey representative will hold the position for the next two years and his role will include running meetings and representing the council at a variety of events including ceremonies, presentations, and fundraisers.
Cllr Quilty, who has served Bushey South for over 20 years, and also represents Bushey Heath at Hertsmere Borough Council, said: "I am absolutely honoured to have been elected for such a significant role.
"I would like to extend my most sincere gratitude to Cllr Wyatt-Lowe, who has been an excellent Chairman throughout a challenging period. I look forward to carrying on the baton and continuing her incredible work under testing circumstances over the next two years, as we look to return to a normal way of life in Hertfordshire."
At the annual general meeting of the county council held on May 25, Cllr Annie Brewster was appointed to the role of vice-chairman.
Cllr Brewster represents Harpenden Rural as a county councillor.
Richard Roberts, the new leader of the county council, said: "I would like to extend my congratulations to Seamus and Annie on their election as chairman and vice-chairman of the council. It is a great honour for them both and is a just reward for their incredible dedication to their communities over many years.
"They are both excellent representatives for the county council who will be able to fulfil their duties with professionalism and enthusiasm to ensure they can continue to contribute to positive changes as they have done throughout their careers.
"I'd also like to thank both Colette Wyatt-Lowe and Dr Susie Gordon for their faultless service and dedication in a uniquely challenging two years."
