- Two people are in hospital following a crash on the the M1 just south of Watford this morning.

- Two lanes were closed southbound between junction 5 (Watford) and junction 4 for the A41 (Edgware), towards London , causing delays of up to one hour.

- The crash involved two vehicles and happened at around 7.20am in the Bushey area of the M1, where it runs alongside the A41. Emergency services were on the scene, including paramedics and firefighters.

- Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue sent four crews to the scene after being alerted at 8.09am and said its officers used cutting equipment to free a woman from one of the vehicles.

- Police have confirmed two people have been taken to hospital although the spokesperson added they are not believed to be seriously injured.

- Traffic was backed up on the M1 to junction 6 for Bricket Wood and beyond and Highways England said it was taking up to an hour to get past the scene.

- The problems on the M1 meant it was chaos on the A41 this morning as drivers avoided the motorway. The A41 was at a standstill from Watford all the way down to Elstree for more than an hour.

- At least one of the two closed lanes on the M1 reopened at around 9.30am, and by 10.30am, all traffic on the M1 and A41 was running freely again.
