With news of lots of interest in Watford town centre's empty sites, the Observer has taken a closer look at some on the market.
Recently it emerged there are around 10 empty units in the town centre but the majority are currently under offer.
Local business chiefs hailed the interest as a reflection of the area's resilience in the challenging times.
Check out some of the vacant units below for background on what they were and what the future might hold for them.
6 Faircross House, 116 The Parade
This used to be Ab Fab tanning.
A spokesperson for Watford BID has revealed the business, now called Sunshine & Co, moved to a smaller unit nearby and a school uniform shop is set to open in its old unit soon.
48-50 High Street
This is the site with graffiti art on it.
It was previously a bar called Rift & Co. and the landlord is looking to redevelop it.
78 High Street
It's the small white site which was previously Boots Opticians.
Its current status is still to be confirmed but it has been refitted so is thought to be receiving interest.
96 The Parade
This was a vape shop called Vype and its current status is that contracts have been exchanged and the new tenant is to take possession in around eight weeks.
135 The Parade
The large white unit on The Parade was a late night bar called On The Pond.
The landlord has converted the upper parts to housing and used the ground floor as a storeroom during the work.
The commercial premises on the ground floor are now being divided into three units, all of which are exchanged or under offer.
Watford Borough Council’s managing director Donna Nolan said: “Covid showed us how much people value the town centre as a space to relax and socialise, which we have recognised with our vibrant outdoor events programme set to lift off this summer.
“Watford Market is also getting a makeover and has welcomed a number of new traders.
“We have so much to offer as a town and because of this we’ve managed to continue to attract new shops and businesses despite the pandemic."
