It’s a feast for the senses down after a host of new food outlets joined a vast range of businesses at Watford Market.
Watford Borough Council has announced a host of new names at the market in the town centre, after the town's mayor promised to "revitalise" the facility with new investment.
The council says the the market now sells everything from fruit and vegetables and fresh fish to the finest watches and clothing.
An expanding range of goods is now being showcased at the market for punters including traditional Italian Neapolitan pizza (Ogy's Pizza), artisan savoury jams (Rudi’s Chilli Jam), fresh homemade baked goods (Rustic Bakehouse), and unique imported candy (Rock Pop Candy) as well as eco-friendly beauty products at Trade and Retail and hand-knitted clothing at Vera.
Watford mayor Peter Taylor said: "These new businesses, along with our brilliant current traders will further enhance our vibrant town and also represent an important contributor to our local economy. As well as the improvements being made to the market, it is exciting to see these new traders adding to the market’s offering and I would encourage everyone to pop down to the market and experience something new while supporting local businesses."
The market has been undergoing a £250,000 investment from the council, which is less than the £750,000 originally budgeted.
The council said the cash would be spent on renovating empty units, creating new signage and planting, and adding "refreshing" branding.
In the past, shoppers have criticised the market for being "tucked away" from the high street and there has also been criticism about the general feel of the place.
The investment will also include the creation of a community café and seating area and pop-up shops where a range of different traders can temporarily sell their goods.
The project is being carried out in partnership with the market's management company, Market Asset Management.
Many of the market's existing businesses are also opening their doors again after Covid restrictions were lifted.
