A charity that teaches people about the history of canals is now offering boat trips again.
Rickmansworth Waterways Trust has reopened Batchworth Lock following months of Covid-19 restrictions and is now able to offer trips on the trust’s Pride of Batchworth canal boat.
The recently completed education centre, located between the canal and the River Colne, is also now open for business.
Currently, The Pride is able to take up to six passengers from the same social bubble for a 40-minute trip which will take them as far as Stockers Lock and back.
The boat is also available to hire for anything from two to six hours, and is fitted out with a small kitchen, tea and coffee-making facilities, indoor and outdoor seats, and a toilet.
All skippers are fully trained and qualified.
In June, the trust’s ‘Learning at the Lock’ education programme will host the first primary school as groups return for an ‘almost unique’ educational offer involving a Victorian history session, complete with dressing up, a visit to the nationally important Roger working canal boat, helping operate Lock 81 itself, and a trip on The Pride of Batchworth.
