Football is for the fans. The every-day men and women who follow their teams through thick and thin are the lifeblood of any club.
But some fans are more synonymous with their clubs than others. Not because their support is more important or meaningful, but simply by nature of their celebrity status.
Prince William bleeds claret and blue for Aston Villa while David Cameron supports… is it West Ham or the Villains? He isn’t quite sure himself.
Premier League giants Arsenal boast Piers Morgan and Osama Bin Laden as their most famous/infamous supporters – make of that what you will.
But who are Watford’s most famous celebrity supporters? (I’m sure we can all guess number one on the list but the others might have you surprised).
1. Elton John
Who else? The man himself. Sir Elton John.
A life-long Hornets supporter, the musical icon was chairman and owner of the club when they rose from the Fourth Division to the First Division in the 1970s and 1980s.
He began supporting the club growing up in Pinner, north London.
Sir Elton stepped down as chairman in 2002 and very few celebrity fans can be said to have as close a relationship with their club as the Rocket Man singer.
During his time as owner he invested heavily in the club and after stepping down he held he held a special concert at Vicarage Road in June 2005 to fundraise for the club and did the same again in May 2010.
2. Anthony Joshua
That’s two-time unified world heavyweight champion, Olympic gold medallist and OBE, Anthony Joshua.
The towering powerhouse grew up in Watford, and like all ‘proper’ football fans, supports his local team and not Manchester United just because they were winning everything.
The golden-boy boxer counts club captain Troy Deeney as a close friend and has previously trained with him ahead of fights.
Despite being one of the most famous boxers in the world, AJ has always been a football fanatic and lists Cristiano Ronaldo as his favourite player.
3. Geri Halliwell
Another born and bred in Watford. Geri Halliwell of British pop super stardom with the Spice Girls counts herself as an avid Hornets fan.
Also known by her alias Ginger Spice, Geri has been photographed on many occasions in Watford’s famous yellow, black and red.
She can often be found on twitter, declaring her love for the club to the world.
4. Jennifer Aniston
Yet another star born in Watford… just kidding. The California native of Friends fame comes as more of a surprise.
So how did this come about?
When being interviewed by BBC Radio 1’s Chris Stark about her upcoming film We’re The Millers – a year after the DJ had convinced our next entry to support the club – Aniston declared her allegiance to the Hornets.
Stark gave her a shirt with her name and squad number on the back, and Aniston vowed to wear it.
5. Mila Kunis
Been a crazy day. Who would have thought. And Watford won! Thanks for so many nice messages. Won't forget today pic.twitter.com/rOJjmLO2js
— Chris Stark (@Chris_Stark) March 5, 2013
Chris Stark is really quite good at recruiting celebrities into Watford FC fandom.
A year before he convinced Jennifer Aniston to rep the Hornets he had gotten Mila Kunis – who rose to fame voicing Meg in family guy and starring in Forgetting Sarah Marshall – to dedicate herself to the club.
Stark's awkward interview with Mila Kunis went viral when Kunis broke off talking about her film to discuss going to the pub with his mates, and watching Watford at Vicarage Road – and now counts herself a die-hard fan.
