Christian Kabasele surprises Watford fan with visit and shirt
Watford defender Christian Kabasele played a blinder by surprising a 13-year-old fan when he turned up at his door not long after the club won promotion. The Hornets ace was responding to a note that had been posted through his door wishing the team luck ahead of their crunch game with Millwall. Young fan Fabio Ponzini and his familiy were left delighted, with his mother Nadia hailing the act of kindness as "something we'll never ever forget".
Filming at Watford's Cassiobury Park
Last week film crews began pitching up in Cassiobury Park - causing a stir and speculation about what it could possibly be. The producers and Watford Borough Council remained tight-lipped, confirming only that an advert was being recorded. Observer reporter Gabriella Iskra took a closer look and tried to piece together the clues.
Watford drug dealers jailed after stop on A405 in Bricket Wood
Two men from Watford were jailed after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. Owais Shafiq, 32, of Douglas Avenue, Watford, and Usman Malik, 26, of The Roundway, Watford, appeared for sentencing at Huntingdon Crown Court on Tuesday (April 27). In December 2020, police officers stopped a Vauxhall Corsa on the A405 in Bricket Wood driving towards Watford. The two occupants were arrested on suspicion of drug supply offences.
Boxing champion Anthony Joshua visits Atria Watford
Watford-born boxer Anthony Joshua was spotted in the town centre visiting the borough's indoor shopping centre. The two-time world heavyweight champion was pictured smiling and chatting to fans outside the Hugo Boss store. A spokesperson for the centre confirmed in a social media post that he had dropped by for a quick shop and thanked him for his support.
Car wrecked after crashing into Bushey Old Jewish Cemetery
A car rolled onto its side and crashed into the Bushey Old Jewish Cemetery - damaging multiple gravestones. Dramatic pictures captured the damage, which showed a red Renault Clio destroyed and on its side in the cemetery after appearing to have crashed through a bush. The driver, 18, suffered slight injuries and was taken to hospital. Melvyn Hartog, United Synagogue’s Head of Burial, said it is supporting families to ensure their loved ones’ gravestones are repaired.
