- Traffic has been extremely heavy this afternoon across the St Albans and Watford area.

- The busy roads were caused by an incident on the M25 near London Colney earlier this afternoon, which left the motorway at a standstill.

- At 3.30pm, traffic stretched back towards junction 19 for Watford and other roads like the A414 and A405 in Bricket Wood and St Albans clogged up as drivers tried to avoid the M25 - as of 5pm, these roads remain busier than usual.

- To make matters worse, there was a separate incident after a crash on a slip road that leads onto the M25 from the M1.

- Why the M25 was brought to a halt near London Colney remains unclear but it is believed to have been a police incident. All of the delays on the M25 as a result of that incident have now cleared.

- However, traffic is now heavy on the M25 between junction 21A and the A1 because of crash near Potters Bar.
