Photos taken by fire district commander Stuart Sanders yesterday evening show a single-storey building engulfed in flames.
He tweeted after the incident: "Watford, Garston Rickmansworth and Borehamwood attended this incident in Northwood last night, derelict building well alight on arrival, good work from the crews prevented the fire spreading to adjoining buildings."
The cause of the fire is not clear.
