I know we are in a election period but you would think that the Conservative candidates for borough and county council would at least know the facts.
From leaflets they have put out across Watford they say they want “increase funding for road maintenance” and have pictures of potholes in roads on their leaflets.
Did their party bosses not tell them the facts or are they being deliberately misleading?
On February 23 this year the Conservative county council, which is responsible for our roads and pavements, CUT £8 million from the local roads maintenance budget - a 22 per cent cut in allocation for our side roads.
The Tories claimed the roads were in a better state than they expected so did not need to spend that money. Our alternative budget and our manifesto commitments for the county elections will not only restore that cut but increase funding by another £3 million for pavement repairs and deal with dangerous potholes within five working days rather than the current 20.
So if the Conservative candidates actually do want what they say in their leaflets they had better vote Lib Dem on May 6!
Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst
County Councillor for Central Watford and Oxhey
