Hertfordshire Police chased a van along a busy motorway and across the border after it was spotted towing a horse trailer reported as stolen.
The county’s police force says the trailer was stolen from an address in the Chorleywood area at around 6.15pm on Thursday, April 8.
Seven minutes after the call came into police, officer PC Radu Vernica saw the trailer being towed by a van travelling anti-clockwise on the M25, near to junction 17.
With support from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, they pursued the van and trailer across the border into Buckinghamshire.
They managed to stop the vehicle in High Wycombe and secure the trailer.
It has now been returned undamaged to its owner.
A man was detained nearby and arrested on suspicion of multiple offences in connection with the incident.
Detective Constable Geoff Webb, from the Case Investigation Team, said: “We are very pleased to have returned the trailer to its owner, who has told us the incident has restored their faith in the police.
“This satisfactory result was possible thanks to the quick and efficient response from officers in intervention and BCH RPU.”
- Kadri Raghip, aged 41, of Oxford Close, Edmonton, London, has been charged with theft, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence in connection with this incident. He has been released on conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at St Albans Crown Court for sentencing on Friday 7 May.
