I cannot argue with Cllr Bilqees Mauthoor’s letter to the editor following the death of Sarah Everard, but I believe we do need to stamp out the rise in “attacks on all people”; not just women, but men also, by men and by women! In other words we need to respect all people and their right to safe passage and the protection of the law.
However that also means respect for all, including police and the likes of NHS, people doing their duty and their, at times, dangerous difficult work.
Personally I was not there at the Clapham Common demonstration and cannot comment beyond reminding us all that:
(A) it was against the law in such numbers.
(B) the police were there to ensure that the law was obeyed.
(C) that it takes two opposing groups to create such a disturbance.
And lastly we currently know only one side of the story.
At my age I do fear for the current state where some apparent pressure groups deliberately push the law and order by such actions and cause more anguish for the silent majority.
