Pictured at the top of this page is Old Church Road in Chingford c1925 at the junction with Hall Lane before Albert Crescent was built in the early 1930s.
Looking north, the road was mainly residential, but with the growing population of South Chingford, there was a need for more shops.
Inevitably, there was mass redevelopment and the road slowly changed to the shopping centre you see today.
