Readers have shared their tributes to a much-loved Watford FC steward.

Michael Molyneux, known as 'Mole', had a long history with the Hornets as a programme seller and steward on the away coaches.

His sister, Caroline McGregor, paid tribute to Michael, 65, who was a Watford FC fan from the age of three when he was taken to Vicarage Road.

Luther Blissett paid his respects to Mole, declaring him as a ‘Watford Legend’ for his dedication to the Watford family.

And now some readers have also shared their tributes and fond memories of Mole.

Barry Jones said: “I have a very fond memory of mole from c 1974 – he did ‘security’ at events at the Wembley Empire pool.

“I was a great fan of David Bowie who was performing at Wembley and ‘Mole’ was on duty that night.

“(He) picked me up on his 125cc motor bike and told me to follow him and to just say that I was with the Wasps (rugby club) security team.

“They let me walk straight in, gave me a security t-shirt, put me on the barrier in front of the stage and gave us sandwiches at the break. Magic memory, and so much for security!”

Stephen Price said: “Mole, you are a friend for over 45 years, will miss you at the footie, Saturday morning breakfast and evening drinking sessions down the Wetherspoons. RIP matey.”

Stephen Kieren Kemp said: “RIP Mr Michael Molyneux, I never met him, but what a wonderful good man he was, a good family man and good friend to many. I’m sure a man who loved his beloved Watford FC just as his father did before him, God bless you buddy.”

When Blissett paid tribute, he said: “There are many things that make someone a Watford legend.

“For me it is how much you touch the lives of others and bring joy to them. When one of our Watford family leaves us, we all feel the loss and most of you know a real golden boy, Mole, went to join Graham on the Golden Bench very recently.

“Many of you have been sharing stories of your encounters with this wonderful chap, indeed legend. And I wanted to share his lovely sister's story which she sent me about his life.”

A funeral is being held on February 23. Anyone wishing to pay their respects to 'Mole' is asked to make a donation to the Club’s Community Trust in his memory.
