Andre Gray has been praised by fans after he donated thousands to help fund the funeral of a Watford fan who died during heart surgery.

A GoFundMe page had been set up after Fee Lear, 36, died of complications with heart surgery on February 4.

Sister-in-law Rochelle Lear set up the fundraiser page with a goal of £6,000 in hopes to help pay for the funeral.

However the remaining money is planned to go towards Fee’s daughter Chloe, who requires physiotherapists sessions after recovering from a stroke and was looked after by her mother as a full-time carer.

The Watford forward was listed among the donors on GoFundMe, with a donation of £5,000 – which helped the page exceed its £6,000 target.

Now nearly £28,000 has been raised.

Talking on the success of the fundraiser, the sister-in-law said: “It has been a week since we lost Fee and in this past week I have had many waking moments where just for a split second I have wondered if this is real.

“My last message to Fee on that Thursday morning wishing her good luck in hospital, it never even entered my mind that we would not speak again.”

She continued: “My words of gratitude seem somewhat inadequate at expressing just how grateful we are, the donations we have received have left me quite speechless and for those who know me, that really doesn’t happen too often!”

On Twitter, some Watford FC fans took the opportunity to praise Gray for his generous donation.
