Watford FC fans have backed Luther Blissett after he questioned why the club had mentioned him and his tabloid nickname in an interview with Andre Gray.

Luther Blissett outlined his disgust at the club in a Facebook post following the release of the video at the weekend.

During the Youtube interview Gray discusses his poor form and his two lockdown breaches.

During the video, the person conducting the interview with Gray mentions Blissett's tabloid nickname "Luther Miss it". 

Luther said he is unhappy with the club "portraying his goal scoring ability in a negative way" so they could, in his opinion, gain sympathy for their former record signing, who has scored just three times during this season and last.

Posting on his Facebook page, he responded: "Speaking honestly myself - this is shameful PR. I am disgusted that the club has included me in this artful production."

The club has so far refused to acknowledge Blissett's post.

Luther, for the love of God, get your boots on and get on the pitch so - you are a legend at our club and you know how much love and affection we, your fans have and will always have for you.

Don't let these muppets get to you - I can't wait for this current crop to move on so we can get some heart and soul back on the pitch and a team who want to be a team, not individuals who say one thing, but do another - twice.

Luther to be even mentioned in the same breath as Andre Grey is offensive.

One is a legend, the other will only be remembered for being the highest paid Sunday league player ever who managed to fake his way to the premier league with one good season.

Even if Luther did miss a few, at least he was in the right position to have an attempt.

This team have taken the term miss it to another level.

I thought the current lot knew the club's history well, apparently not. You do not attack GT or any of his heroes.

The Grey interview is strange! I think the interviewer should have spoke of Ellington as a more comparable 'jumping off point'.

My career, from scoring goals to anti racism and community work has been built on genuine humility and gratitude to the fans.

I was always first to criticise myself for a lost opportunity, trust me. And Graham Taylor made sure if there was any doubt. I would never say that I “excelled” but our style was to get shots away, we as a team though were “extraordinary”.

They didn’t always go in, no striker scores with every shot- but maybe their surnames don’t rhyme enough for the tabloids... who also thought “black flash” was an acceptable name.

To beat Ian Rush to the Golden Boot, for Europe with 27 league goals (33 overall) is only a couple short of Mo Salah’s Premier League record. And that of Alan Shearer and Andy Cole (both part of Premier League winning teams). So I won’t apologise again for any that didn’t go in.

Nor, would Graham have made excuses for me...
