New food hygiene ratings for eateries across Watford have been published by the Food Standards Agency.
Local Authority Inspectors have been constantly rating establishments across the local area to make sure that food hygiene is up to code and holds good food safety standards.
And in this year, just seven places were found needing some or urgent improvements.
Ratings on a scale are then issued to rank the hygiene standards at the time of inspection.
Five is top of the scale, meaning the hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law and zero is at the bottom of the scale, meaning urgent improvement is necessary.
Below is a breakdown on which places required some form of improvement this year:
Harris Grocery Limited
66 Market Street
The store was found needing necessary improvement after its inspection on October 9 this year, with a rating of ‘two’.
Its hygienic food handling – which includes factors like preparation, cooking and re-heating, cooling and storage – was considered ‘generally satisfactory’.
Likewise, its management of food safety was also ‘generally satisfactory’.
However the inspection found that the cleanliness of the facilities did require improvement.
Garston Café
The café at The Gossamers required necessary improvement due to its hygienic food handling after the inspection on September 23.
The café was rated ‘two’, but the cleanliness of the facility was considered as ‘good’ and the management of food safety was ‘generally satisfactory’.
Faborje Bar and Grill
The restaurant, located at the Parade, was found to need urgent improvement following an inspection on February 2020 and was rated zero.
The food hygiene report shows specific concern to the management of food safety, which normally factors in the system or checks to make sure food is safe to eat, evidence that staff are trained in food safety, and confidence in the food standards.
Cleanliness and condition of the facilities as well as the hygienic food handling found that some improvement was necessary.
Brazuca Bar
The bar on Whippendell Road needed ‘major improvement’ after an inspection on January 23 this year with a rating of one.
This concern was again mainly for the management of food safety at the premises.
However hygienic food handling including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage was found to be generally satisfactory.
But the report did show that the general cleanliness and condition of the facilities did require necessary improvement.
Bar Bodega
The popular night venue was found needing necessary major improvement after an inspection on February 4 with a rating of one.
While its hygienic food handling was found as ‘good’ and the cleanliness of the facility was declared ‘generally satisfactory’, it was the management of food safety that fumbled the rating.
Corner Shop
The Corner shop at 74 Market Street was ranked with a ‘two’ meaning improvement was necessary following the inspection on February 3.
Management of food safety and the cleanliness of the place was considered ‘generally satisfactory’, but the hygienic food handling including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage needed improvement.
Hayris Kebab House, Clarendon Road
Overall, the kebab house required ‘major improvement’ following its ranking of ‘one’ during its inspection on February 26.
Its hygienic food handling and cleanliness of the areas was considered ‘generally satisfactory’, but concerns were issued with its management of food safety.
Other recent inspections
Below is a list of other Food Hygiene inspections that took place in recent months between July and November this year.
All of these venues were either found with hygiene standards that are generally satisfactory (rank three) or above.
A rating of four means hygiene standards are ‘good’ and a rating of five means hygiene standards are ‘very good’.
