Two men stole a debit card from an elderly man to withdraw £200.
Officers are investigating the theft at the ATM outside Asda on St Albans Road, near The Dome roundabout.
The victim, a man in his 80s, was attempting to withdraw funds when the ATM began to malfunction.
He was approached by a man who told him to press a number of keys, which he used as a distraction to remove the victim’s card from the machine without the victim realising.
A second man then approached the victim and told him to press some more keys, which is when the victim realised his card had been taken.
Later the same day, the card was used to withdraw a total of £200 from the nearby Sainsbury’s.
Police have now released images of two men they would like to speak to
PC Sophie Rankin, who is investigating, said: “We have carried out a number of enquiries into this offence to date and we have now chosen to release these images as part of our investigation.
“I understand that the people pictured are wearing masks but perhaps someone recognises their clothing or their stance? We believe they were in the area at the time of the offence and could have vital information to help with our enquiries.
“If you have any information, even if you believe it to be insignificant, please contact me as soon as possible.”
