A daughter has paid tribute to her "NHS hero" dad who has died after testing positive for coronavirus.
Khalid Jamil, 57, passed away on April 14 at his workplace, Watford General Hospital, after a short battle with Covid-19.
The father-of-two, who lived in St Albans, was a healthcare assistant and had been with West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust since March 2006.
Mr Jamil came to the UK from Pakistan, where he was a qualified doctor, before joining the hospital trust.
He began his time at the trust at Hemel Hempstead Hospital before moving to Watford, where he worked in Bluebell ward.
On April 5, Mr Jamil was sent home from work after becoming unwell. On April 11, he was rushed to hospital and taken into an intensive care unit.
Sadly, three days later, Mr Jamil died, leaving behind his wife Rubina, daughter Sumaiyah, 22, and 14-year-old son, Rayhan.
Sumaiyah told the Observer and Review her father was a "selfless" man who always put his family's needs before his own, adding he used to always come home and share stories about his day and the patients he cared for.
She said: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beautiful dad. He was an NHS hero who lost his life to coronavirus.
"In a matter of days his condition had deteriorated rapidly and it was very hard for our family to see him in such a vulnerable state.
"Many will describe my dad as always having a smile on his face. His loving and supportive nature extended to all his relatives, friends, colleagues, and patients.
"We cannot put into words the depth of his loss. He really was the heart of our family.
"He was a phenomenal father whom we will miss dearly and we will keep him in our prayers and cherish our memories with him forever."
Sumaiyah has also recognised all of the NHS staff who are "working tirelessly" on the frontline to save lives, describing them as "true heroes".
The 22-year-old has also called for the issue of "limited supplies" of personal protective equipment (PPE) across the NHS to be addressed, pointing towards the increasing number of Covid-19 deaths among hospital staff.
Sumaiyah has also called for the public to ensure they are following guidelines about staying at home in order to save lives.
Colleagues of Mr Jamil say they have "memories with Khalid that they will remember forever".
Lyndsey Rice, a healthcare assistant speaking on behalf of the team at Bluebell ward, said: "Khalid was one of the kindest, most gentle men you will ever meet. He was a healthcare assistant at Watford General and Hemel Hempstead for many years.
"So now, I would like us all to unite together as we always do and support the family every way possible. As I know how each of us has a memory with Khalid one to treasure forever."
Ms Rice has also started a fundraising page to support Mr Jamil's family.
The Go Fund Me Page has raised nearly £5,000, with more than 200 donating.
West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: "Sadly, despite the excellent care given, Khalid Jamil died on Tuesday 14 April.
"Khalid joined the trust in March 2006 and colleagues who worked with him describe him as 'a kind, gentle man who was unassuming and respectful to all his colleagues and helpful to others'.
"He was very fondly thought of and will be greatly missed."
