The police have released a warning which tells people not to fall for a boxing club scam.
Hertfordshire Constabulary says it has received reports of the scam in Watford, Hemel Hempstead, and Dunstable in Bedfordshire.
Police have written to neighbourhood watch members after reports young men were asking people to help support a boxing club.
However, police say that this boxing club is not real and they are simply asking for money for “their own gain”.
In particular, elderly people and those who are vulnerable are being targeted.
The email says: "I am writing to inform you that recently there has been an increase in young males asking for money in the town centre to help support a boxing club. This is completely fabricated and they are not fundraising for any boxing club. They are simply asking for money for their own gain."
If you have been threatened to give money for this cause for a new boxing club, ring 999. If you have heard anything about this scam or believe you have seen it happen, call police on 101.
