A section of a bus route is to be scrapped because of financial reasons.
Sullivan Buses has taken the decision to stop running the 398 bus between Borehamwood and Watford from August 31.
The company extended the route to run to Watford in June 2015. It initially ran between Potters Bar and Borehamwood but Sullivan Buses says despite “making a number of changes”, the extension has operated at a “loss”.
The journeys to and from Queens School in Bushey and the first two morning journeys to Watford are not being axed.
However, Sullivan Buses will be improving its 306 service to run every 15-20 minutes from Watford between 4.45pm and 6.15pm towards Elstree and Borehamwood.
The 398 between Potters Bar and Borehamwood will now run hourly Monday to Friday. Currently, between 10am and 4pm, the service runs roughly every two hours.
The Saturday 398 service will no longer run.
On its current route, the 398 travels from Potters Bar via South Mimms towards Borehamwood. It then travels towards Radlett, along Radlett Road towards Bushey, before ending at Watford high street.
The 306 service runs from St Michael’s school in Garston, through Watford, Bushey and Elstree, before travelling on roads in Borehamwood including Stanborough Avenue, Allerton Road, and Leeming Road, as well as Tesco Extra, before terminating at the train station.
All changes will come into effect from September 1.
Commercial manager at Sullivan Buses, Steve Simmonds, said: “Sullivan Buses regret to announce that most route 398 journeys between Borehamwood and Watford no longer run after 31st August.
“Extra journeys have been added to the 306 route in the evenings to partly replace 398 journeys. This will benefit Borehamwood commuters with more journeys to estates in the north of Borehamwood.”
