There could be extra buses for town centre shoppers after a mayoral candidate pledged to introduce more services, if he wins.
George Jabbour, who is standing as the Conservative candidate in the mayoral elections in Watford in a month's time, believes people, especially those who are elderly, are missing the opportunity to come to the town centre because of the lack of "suitable" transport means.
Working with Watford MP Richard Harrington, Mr Jabbour has said improving the town's transport link is one of his top priorities.
As part of his plans, new shopper services would run twice a week with buses operating outside busy hours.
He said: “I will work with both the private sector and Hertfordshire County Council to ensure better access and easier commutes for residents who live outside the town centre and who rely on public transport by introducing shopper bus routes which will also benefit our local shops and businesses.
"A pilot scheme would be put in place for one year to assess if there is sufficient demand for a particular route. Depending on the outcome, the route could become permanent and have more frequent services.”
Mr Jabbour's idea comes after Liberal Democrat hopeful Peter Taylor announced that he would create an app which provides information public transport services around Watford.
The app would contain live information on all bus services, train, tube and taxi services, along with functions that would allow users to book taxis and buy train tickets.
The Watford mayoral election takes place on May 3.
