A candidate in this year’s mayoral elections has pledged to provide an app which provides information public transport services around Watford.
Liberal Democrat cllr and current Deputy Mayor Peter Taylor says he will introduce a Transport App for the town if he was to be elected Mayor in the upcoming elections on May 3.
The App would contain live information on all bus services, train, tube and taxi services, along with functions that would allow users to book taxis and buy train tickets.
It would be available to download for any Watford resident with a smartphone.
Cllr Taylor said: "Our town is a bustling and thriving place and has gone through an incredible period of growth. I’m determined to make sure that our infrastructure keeps up with our growth. This App will make it easier to get live information about the local transport network all in one place.
“Watford Junction is the busiest train station in our region and with the shopping centre extension and new cinema opening later this year, more and more people will be visiting our town by public transport.
"If I am elected as Watford’s next mayor, a top priority will be to improve the bus services we have. As well as better services, it will be very convenient to have all the up-to-date travel information you need in one place.
“It is vital that we have better transport infrastructure – and make better use of technology to share information – so that our town can grow sustainably.”
Cllr Taylor is standing against Labour candidate cllr Jagtar Singh Dhindsa and Conservative George Jabbour in the battle to replace current Mayor Dorothy Thornhill when she steps down in May.
Watford Borough Council will take part in a pilot scheme, run by the Cabinet Office, which will mean voters will need to show their ID before they can vote in the mayoral elections.
The ID can also count as voter's poll cards too.
